digits revisited – the proportions challenge

digits-revisited

About a year ago, I took part in Berry’s digits challenge for the first time – the post is here – so of course I’m taking part in this new challenge about proportions, especially since I’ve changed a few digits over the year. If you want to take part, too, here’s Berry’s original post with all the questions and info.

The digits I changed are marked in red – I’ve added in hand size, which I had at 20 before I got the SLink mesh hands, I found that to keep my look consistant and the hands at a normal size I needed to make them bigger when wearing the mesh hands. I also upped Torso muscle, again to make the mesh hands fit perfectly. and while at it decided that my arms needed to be even longer than before. That’s all that changed – of course, sometimes I fiddle with the digits a bit for better fitting clothes, but really, not much. My avi almost always fits xxs perfectly. And now to Berry’s questions!

  1. Do you try and keep your avatar’s body proportionate and similar to the “average” proportions pictured above?
I do that quite unconciously – proportions are important for me, and I’ll try to get them right without really thinking about it.
  2. What do you dislike the most about the SL avatar mesh?
The feet are very ugly, the ankles and I hate how the mesh stretches between the legs – it’s really annoying when trying to design system clothes! I didn’ t think the hands as bad as many others do, but since I bought the mesh hands I’ve not taken them off, so..
  3. Does it bother you when you see other avatars that are not proportionate at all?
Yeah, it is a pet peeve for me. If you’re a fantasy character or a furry, it doesn’t bother me, but if you’re a human, I instantly see too small hands, too short arms, too small feet and heads! I would never comment on it if not asked to give an opinion, though. It just is not pleasing to my eye.
  4. Even though this is a virtual world and people can be anything they want to be, do you feel when they are in human form, they should try to keep their proportions close to average?
Even though proportions are important to me, I’m fully aware that they might not be so much to others, and that everyone should make their avatar look like they want it to look. Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder! I know that a lot of people think my avatar much too thin, but I love her like she is and wouldn’t add a digit of fat to please anyone! 🙂
